enmacc is Europe's largest over-the-counter energy trading platform, where professional energy traders monitor and respond to hundreds of Requests for Quotes (RFQs). This case study focuses on improving opportunity discovery within the RFQ board while preserving traders' perception of market liquidity.
MY ROLE
I led the end-to-end product design process for this concept, analysing the existing RFQ workflow, identifying key usability and business constraints, defining hypotheses, and designing a prioritisation system that improves opportunity discovery while preserving traders' perception of market liquidity.
DESIGN RATIONALE
The existing RFQ board required traders to continuously scan a large volume of visually similar cards, making actionable opportunities difficult to identify. Rather than redesigning the entire interface, I focused on introducing lightweight structural changes that guide attention, reduce cognitive load, and improve scanning efficiency while preserving the overall market context. Every design decision balanced two competing objectives: helping traders discover opportunities faster without making the market appear less active.
The redesign had to support both RFQ initiators seeking competitive market responses and traders searching for actionable opportunities—without creating separate experiences for each side of the marketplace.
Instead of redesigning the trading experience, I focused on introducing the smallest structural change that meaningfully improves opportunity discovery. By separating actionable opportunities from general market exploration, traders can react faster to executable RFQs while still maintaining awareness of the broader market—a key factor in preserving perceived liquidity.
RESULT
Deliverables included a redesigned desktop RFQ board, prioritisation strategy, lifecycle filtering model, progressive disclosure card system, documented design rationale, trade-off analysis, success metrics, and recommendations for future iterations.
